It doesn't matter if you have any experience at all with the internet, or even if you are just beginning to use your first computer. There are two terms you will learn very quickly. One is "Search Engine", the other "email account". Without a working knowledge of both, your computer will serve very little purpose. As for your email account, it is almost impossible to set-up your computer without having to establish an email account. As to the Search engine, upon set-up you will be asked to select your primary engine as well. Which is chosen is up to the user, and many times it is changed at some point of time. In most cases, as the user becomes familiar with how the computer functions, as specific needs are realized, preferences will change.
The most popular email carriers are MSN, Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail. Although there are others, these four seem to be the most frequently used. Although I first began with MSN, I have changed to Yahoo. I am not claiming one to be better than the other, it is just what I happen to feel comfortable using. I do have a Gmail account as well. However, I use it only for a specific purpose. Many prefer one over the other because of the manner in which the provider handles spam. Some providers take more precaution guarding against spam, preventing it from reaching the inbox. In the case of Gmail and Hotmail, many associate these two with spam emails. Although not all email from these carriers happens to be spam. Again, this is a matter of personal choice.
Search engines are what provides us access to the Internet. There are quite a few available, the most popular being Internet Explorer, Firefox, Bing, Google Chrome and Maxathon. As with most decisions of this type, which engine to use comes back to which you feel works best for your needs. Personally, I have downloaded each of the Search engines I have listed. In fact, there is another engine, Safari, which I use as well. I do many types of work online. I have found each of these engines handle certain aspects of my work differently. On occasion, I may need to have several email accounts open at one time. As you begin to gain experience with some of these engines, you will find you appreciate each for totally different reasons.
The Internet has given us many choices, in the selection of many different things. We are able to choose the type of email account we want, along with the Search engine we choose to use online. It is a good thing to try new options, maybe spend some time determining whether a different tool works better for us than the one we have used for years. However, it is easy to become complacent. Unless we are willing try new ways of doing things, we can miss some great opportunities. You would be surprised at what is available.
