Many wonder if it is safe purchasing through a Classified site. The majority of the items for sale on these sites are owned by local individuals. Therefore you will have the opportunity to meet the seller, see and handle the merchandise before completing the purchase. Yes, there are some cases where the transaction is made over the Internet. In these situations, it would probably be wise to use caution. There are various categories of merchandise. You can find automobiles, household items, clothing, electronics and much more. These sites will also include personal ads for dating purposes. Whether you choose to respond to these is of course your decision. However, many of the ads have been placed by individuals who are connected with Dating sites. They are affiliates whose job is to lead you to a specific site. Yes, some of them represent local men and women. However, I would exercise caution and care before responding.

Of all the Classified sites online, Craigslist is the most recognizable. Granted, the site has experienced quite a bit of bad press. Some was justified, some was not. The owner of the site had a valid point when he said the site could not control the actions of the advertisers. However, at that point of time precautions which exist today were not in-place. It was once extremely easy to place an ad of any type. Essentially, all you needed was to be able to type. Now, there are checks in place which make it much more difficult to remain invisible when placing the ad. It is now necessary to maintain an account which is connected to a phone number. This telephone number must be verified by the site, establishing a trail to the advertiser. This is not saying bad things can no longer happen. What I am saying is the site is much safer today.

If I have managed to cast a negative light on this type of site, I did not intend to do so. These sites have been successful in providing users with products and services which were very badly needed. Many very positive transactions have been completed with no issues whatsoever. As with any site on the Internet, it is advisable to understand negatives can occur. The sites I have mentioned are good sites which can, unfortunately, be used by dishonest people.
